At Christian Virtual School, we believe that caring for God’s creation is a sacred calling. As we reflect on Earth Day and this year’s theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” we are reminded that stewardship of the earth is not merely a responsibility — it is an act of worship.
In Genesis 2:15, we read, “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” From the very beginning, humanity has been entrusted with the care of the earth. This trust calls us to action: to protect, nurture, and cherish the world that God has so lovingly created.
Today, as we look around at the beauty of spring — new life budding, rivers flowing, skies stretching wide — we are invited to see creation through the eyes of our Creator. Each tree, each bird, each blade of grass is a testimony to God’s artistry and generosity. In turn, how we treat the earth becomes a reflection of our gratitude and reverence for Him.
This year’s Earth Day theme calls us to recognize our collective power — a power rooted not just in advocacy, but in prayer, education, and small faithful actions. As a community of learners and believers, we can be powerful witnesses for change:
-
We educate ourselves and others, seeking wisdom about how to care for God’s creation wisely and justly.
-
We advocate for sustainable choices, showing love for our neighbours today and for generations yet to come.
-
We act in faith, whether by planting a garden, reducing waste, supporting clean energy initiatives, or simply pausing to appreciate the intricate beauty around us.
Psalm 24:1 reminds us, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” When we care for the world, we honour the One who created it.
As Earth Day passes and we move forward, may we be a people who see every day as an opportunity to live out our calling as stewards. Let us embrace the “power” we have — not for our own glory, but for the glory of God, the Maker of heaven and earth.

Together, through prayer, learning, and action, we can nurture a future that honours God’s magnificent creation.
