The sun was shining brightly this morning, so my wife and I decided to sit out on the deck to have a coffee break and, more so, to enjoy the warmth of the sun one last time this fall. We were absorbing the rays of the sun as we looked over our neighbourhood and we found ourselves thanking God for His abundant provision. The interesting point here is as I checked my spelling, I was inserting “son” instead of typing “sun”! No wonder we were thanking God for His provision, Jesus was speaking to us through His beauty and generous provision!
Celebrations such as Christmas and Easter seem to pale the celebration of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is not only a “family and friends” gathering around the table to fellowship.
Thanksgiving is a time for believers to acknowledge and thank God for his many blessings and provision. It is a time to rejoice knowing that we have access to his throne of grace. Finally, it is a time to look forward to his return, a time when we will sit with God at His table – Revelation 19:9 (NIV) – Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!
God wants us to commune with Him. Isaiah 55:2 (NIV) says:
Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare.
When we sit with family or friends, we fellowship with one another: sharing a meal, sharing common interests, having intimate communion, and most of all professing our love! That is God’s desire as well.
Thanksgiving is a time to rejoice in God’s provision and a looking forward to the great marriage supper of the lamb when we will commune with the Father and Jesus. A time when God himself will dwell with us.
May the Lord’s blessing be upon you this Thanksgiving. May He keep you safe and may His face shine on you and may He be gracious to you. May His favour and peace rest upon you.
