“Mary Did You Know?” highlights the miraculous events surrounding Jesus’ birth and his role as our saviour. But did you know, the song line was in play thousands of years ago!

Lets go back in time to the shepherds tending to their sheep during a normal calm night. All of a sudden, an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified! Luke 2:10-11 then says, “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.'”

We can go back even further! The birth of Jesus was foretold by prophets centuries before this. Isaiah 7:14 states, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel.” This prophecy highlights the miraculous nature of Jesus’ birth and His divine identity.

Can you imagine God’s love for us! Celebrating Christmas signifies God’s love for all of us and His plan for salvation! Jesus’ humble birth in a manger underscores His mission to serve and save each one of us. As John 3:16 famously declares, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Remember, His love reaches every corner of our experience. It is wide – it spans time and space and reaches out to the whole world. God’s love is long – He goes to great lengths to reveal His love towards us, even the cross. His love reaches higher heights than we can ask, think, or imagine. His love is deep – it touches the depths of darkness within us.

The song “Mary Did You Know” says:

“Did you know that your baby boy

Has come to make you new?

This child that you delivered, will soon deliver you”

Do you know Jesus as your Lord and deliverer?

My heart is that we have the boldness to proclaim the birth of our Lord and Saviour this Christmas season and to take it a step further and speak the reason for Jesus’ birth during the New Year!

Out of God’s glorious riches may you be filled with the fullness of His love, joy, and peace. Let us reflect on His love and the hope He brings to the world this Christmas season.
