We’re excited to announce the launch of yet another Grade 9 course: Healthy Active Living Education. We are exceptionally grateful for our writing and development team for their constant commitment to producing quality content for our students. We are also pumped to let you know that Mark Hindermeier will be teaching this course. He brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the table, as his students in SNC1D and BTT1O/2O can confirm!
As an online school, we often get asked “how do you teach phys ed online?” It’s obviously going to look much different than it would at a bricks-and-mortar school. Students don’t necessarily have a track to run in their backyard, or a gym to play basketball in. While the active portions of the course were built with physical and spatial limitations in mind, what we love most about our course is that it’s more than just jumping jacks and learning to dance. Clearly, there is physical activity in phys ed, but the course was developed to be a more comprehensive look at physical education and healthy lifestyles.
Course Outline
This course equips students with the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy choices now and lead healthy, active lives in the future. Through participation in a wide range of physical activities, students develop knowledge and skills related to movement competence and personal fitness that provide a foundation for active living. Students also acquire an understanding of the factors and skills that contribute to healthy development and learn how their own well-being is affected by, and affects, the world around them. Students build their sense of self, learn to interact positively with others, and develop their ability to think critically and creatively.
Throughout the course, students will explore the concept of being “fearfully and wonderfully made by God for His glory and purpose” and how we can use this as a foundation to live healthy lives. Students will be introduced to topics such as healthy eating habits and mental wellness through a Christian perspective.
