Music is a huge part of our lives, whether you’re in the car, in the grocery store, or watching TV, there’s likely music playing. Music can make us smile, dance, rejoice! Music can call a memory to mind as vivid as if we’re actually reliving it. Music can also reduce stress and relieve anxiety. Music can help us process emotions, whether it be grief, joy, or somewhere in-between! Music can be so powerful and has so many uses.
Not only can you use it to improve your mood or help you focus, you can use it to worship God! Above all, music is a gift from God. How great is it that we can glorify Him by singing our praises? (It doesn’t even matter if you can’t quite sing on tune, like me, as Paul says in Ephesians 5:19 (NIV): “Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord.” All that matters is that your praise is from your heart!) You can even use music to listen to Him. To hear Him speak through the lyrics.
Over the past several lessons in our weekly Bible study, we have been exploring who we are in Christ. In our most recent lesson, we asked students to submit a song that speaks to them – that reminds them of who they are in Christ.
Some of our favourite songs that fit this bill are:
- Who you say I am by Hillsong Worship
- Canvas and Clay by Pat Barrett
- I am Loved by Mack Brock
Christian Virtual School has a Spotify account. We carefully curate our playlists for our listeners, and our latest playlist will be a compilation of all the songs that students and supporters send us that speak to them, that remind them of who they are in Christ. Check out our playlists below.
